For the past 28 years, Orcas youth ages 6-18 have been introduced to the sport of sailing through this popular program. Sail Orcas is happy to present this summer program which focuses on teaching sailing skills in a safe, fun environment. With a variety of boats including Vanguard Prams, Lasers and Bics, the program can accommodate beginners and experienced sailors. We offer the perfect sailing venue in the protected waters of West Sound on Orcas Island. All instructional staff are US Sailing Certified Instructors and Coaches. Intro to Sailing and Intermediate Sailing will be offered all weeks this summer. Marine Science and Fun on the Water will each be offered in select weeks. Registration by mail is not an option.

Intro to Sailing

This class is designed for novice-beginners to have fun while learning the basics of small boat sailing. Instructors will combine land-based lessons with on the water experience each day. No prior experience is necessary but participants must know how to swim and be comfortable jumping into the water in a life jacket.
Intermediate Sailing
9-18Every Week
June 22-Aug 27
In this intermediate class, participants will build on prior sailing experience to hone basic skills, learn more advanced concepts and head out on longer expeditions within West Sound.
Marine Science & Sailing
9+July 20-24 This class will combine sailing with science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) topics in marine biology, developed in partnership with SeaDoc Society.
Fun on the Water
6-7July 20-24 This course is for the youngest kids to have fun and become comfortable being on the water in the most supportive environment possible.

Program Fees and Terms

Registration must be made online by the parent or legal guardian of the student. The 2018 course fees are $135 per 4 day class. Reservations and payments are made online through the Sail Orcas web site only. Payment must be made at the time of registration using a major credit card. Tuition refunds will be made upon request 10 days prior to the start of a class but not after that time. Classes may be rescheduled to a later date if there is room available.

Tuition Support

There is tuition support for low income families available through the Seattle Sailing Foundation. If your student qualifies for the free or reduced cost lunch program in the Washington Public School System then you will qualify for this tuition support program. However, you must pay for your tuition at the time of registration using your credit card and when we receive the proper documentation from you we will refund your sailing tuition. Meeting Place

Meet at the Orcas Island Yacht Club Pavilion located north of the West Sound Marina on West Sound. Morning classes run 9AM-12PM and afternoon classes are 1PM-4PM.
