The Orcas High School Sailing Team was one of the original 5 teams that started the Northwest Interscholastic Sailing Association. The team in its present form was started by longtime coach and current Sail Orcas Board President, Burke Thomas. The team was coached and led to national regattas by Hannah Tuscon Turner. While the program largely stopped operations during the COVID-19 pandemic and has been rebuilding, the sailors Burke and Hannah coached have continued to give back to the program as instructors and assistant coaches.
Currently, the team is run by the only non-Orcas alumni Julia Soes, and assistant coaches Taylor Smith, Cameron Schuh, and Domenick Wareham.
The current group of sailors are determined to have their generation live up to those of past eras on the team and are working hard to get there.
