This is a program that's by-women for-women. Learning how to sail can be rewarding and a great way to relax and meet people, being in a women-only space helps take away some of the stress of learning a new thing while feeling pressure to do well or feeling nervous about making mistakes. We want to promote women on the water as best we can and help build a community.
This is a learn-to-sail class in double-handed dinghies, but the West Sound Women's Sailing Association offers more than just the classes. This group is becoming a movement. This summer we'll be hosting seminars on boat maintenance taught by women in the maritime industry and in the fall we're hosting the High School Sailing Girls Qualifications. Our goal is to have the event entirely women-run.
For the young ones learning to race, and those who've sailed at the highest levels of the sport, all are welcome to splash around and take part in the Tuesday Night Community Laser Races. These are fun family events for everyone to watch or take part in. No age limit, we only ask that sailors can comfortably sail (and right) a Laser. This summer we'll have prizes for the monthly series winners.
The goal of this class is for kids to interact with the natural world and see themselves as a part of it, through sailing. We'll be learning about the natural history and hydrology of Orcas Island and those who call it home.
Sail Orcas is using the Ultracamp online registration system. You will first need to create an account before you can use the system. Then you can register yourself or your child into a class.
